Tralee continued on their quest for league glory with a convincing win over visitors Clanwilliam on Sunday. Despite opting to play against a strong breeze, Tralee dominated the game from the off with Fleming, having been converted to first centre, opening the scoring and touching down under the posts. Brick duly converted to give Tralee a 7-0 lead and settle the nerves. Tralee continued to press forward with some fine breaks by backs and forwards alike with the O’Mahony sisters linking up on the wing to put Emer over in the corner. The Tralee girls had been working hard in training on their rucking and counter-rucking which showed as they turned over plenty of ball. The pack did fantastic work in securing the ball allowing the backs to run hard at the opposition, resulting in further tries by Fleming and Laura and Emer O’Mahony. The half-time whistle sounded with Tralee leading 27-0 and a bonus point to add.

Tralee knew they couldn’t let the concentration levels drop and Fleming did very well to catch the re-start and take off on one of her trademark runs, she was caught short of the line but had Laura O’Mahony hot on her heels in support to touch it down. Tralee’s lineout proved a thorn in Clanwilliam’s side, constantly stealing their ball, giving more attacking opportunities to the home side. Tralee’s outstanding scrummaging enabled the backs to move the ball quickly through the hands to find Emer O’Mahony in the corner, who managed to run in under the posts allowing Foley to add another 2points.

Fleming put the final nail in Clanwilliam’s coffin with another fine try following some dazzling interplay by the backline. Tralee maintained a rock-solid defence throughout the game much to the delight of Coach Paul McMahon. Tralee showed considerable heart and determination from start to finish and a massive effort was put in by all. This win sets Tralee up with a ‘winner takes all’ league encounter away to Youghal on the 28th; all support would be greatly appreciated.
