GoFundMe launched in wake of COVID-19

Please support your club!

Tralee, Tuesday 9th June, 2020: Tralee Rugby Club has today launched a public appeal for funds as the long established sports club aims to deal with significant financial losses as a result of the covid19 pandemic.

The club has launched a dedicated Go Fund Me page and is calling on all members, non-members and the general public to get behind the club and secure the future of rugby in Tralee.

Commenting on the appeal, Tralee RFC Chairman Richard Sharp said. “As a result of the closure of the club in March in line with the Covid19 restrictions, we unfortunately had to cancel all of the essential fundraising activities we had planned over the summer months to maintain the general running of the cub. As a result, we now urgently need financial support to ensure that the club is safely in a position to re-open later this year. All funds raised through the campaign will go towards essential maintenance and upgrades including health and safety training, coaching courses, pitch maintenance, gear and general club running costs.

He continued “We understand that this is a very difficult time for everyone in the community and that many families and business are struggling financially. All we ask is that if you have something to give and are keen to help us secure the future of Tralee Rugby Club that you consider supporting our campaign. Every little helps and all funds raised will be greatly appreciated.”

Tralee Rugby Club has been a firmly established presence in the town for many years. Founded in 1882, the club is one of the oldest rugby clubs in not just Munster, but the whole of Ireland. It has a long and proud history of promoting rugby and the development of talented young players, many of whom went on to achieve great success in the sport. Legendary members over the years include Dick Spring, Donal Spring, Barry McGann and more recently Ultan Dillane, Ciara Griffin and Siobhan Fleming.

The club operates the largest youth and mini section in the west Munster and every Saturday morning has upwards of 300 kids from across the wider Tralee area from under 6 to under 18 either training or playing rugby.
