Munster Junior Plate final:
Tralee 22, Old Crescent 15
The Munster Junior Plate Final was played between Old Crescent RFC and Tralee RFC in Newcastle West yesterday. Crescent opened the scoring after ten minutes with a penalty kicked by Paul Collins and followed it up with an intercept try from the Crescent 22 by winger Liam Wilson on 20 minutes. The convert was missed.
Tralee kicked a penalty on 35 minutes to leave the half time score, Old Crescent 8, Tralee 3.
Crescent extended their lead just after the restart with a try scored by Ciaran Cusack and Paul Collins added the conversion and the 15-3 scoreline reflected the trend of the game.
Tralee struck back on the hour with a converted try and five minutes later added an unconverted try to level the scores at 15 points apiece with 15 minutes remaining.
In the final minutes both teams missed penalty chances and with the extra time looming, Tralee struck the decisive blow with a try in the corner with the last play of the game. They added the conversion to bring the final score to Tralee 22, Old Crescent 15.
Michael Keane, Munster Branch Vice President and member of Tralee RFC, complimented both sides for a highly entertaining final and presented the Munster Junior Plate to the winning Tralee captain.
